Description
Program Overview
The Master’s Degree Course in Strategic Studies and Diplomatic Sciences is inspired by an interdisciplinary approach, in which the contents and methodologies of Political Science, Sociology of Communication, Law, Economy, and Statistics complement each other. The knowledge and tools acquired through the study of these disciplines are essential to developing a career in both the public and private sectors in the contemporary world. In the first year, students master and learn how to use the main theories of international relations in a flexible way and develop a good understanding of: the dynamics of the global economy and financial markets, the classical and emerging legal principles that regulate international political life, and the relationship between media, actors and political processes.
Moreover, at this stage, students are guided in the exploration of the objectives and strategies of two international actors particularly relevant from the Italian perspective: the USA and the Vatican. In the second year, students turn their attention to emerging global issues such as energy and climate policies, the management of local conflicts and international humanitarian crises with unclear outcomes, and the conflicting strategies of the main protagonists of international politics. They are asked to integrate the skills of qualitative analysis (developed previously) with the use of quantitative methods to investigate international political phenomena. Finally, they are offered the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of two crucial regions of the world political chessboard, namely, the Indo-Pacific quadrant and the Post-Soviet Space, as well as the goals and policies of their respective champions, China and Russia.
