Big data and data-driven methods are at the centre of modern computer science, statistics, computer engineering, and complex systems research, putting large-scale data, mathematical modelling and computer simulations at the front of an interdisciplinary attempt to describe reality. Data science is key for a quantitative understanding of complex techno-social phenomena, allowing us to make predictions and even steer systems of diverse origin.
