Facilitated by the School of Communications, Media, Arts and Design, The dynamic Dance Performance program is on the cutting edge of what's new, innovative, current and popular in today's dance culture. This college diploma program will focus on helping you develop a high standard of performance and technical dance skills and understanding professional industry standards and expectations. With a holistic approach, this program not only focuses on the physical aspects of dance but strives to build a strong sense of self-esteem, confidence and self-belief. You will be trained in:

In addition to learning technical dance skills, you'll take courses that will nurture and enrich the mind-body connection and enhance your storytelling abilities. Throughout the two years of the Dance Performance program, you'll also learn and develop skills and tools to cope with issues such as self and body image, stress, rejection, nutrition, and a better understanding of anatomy and injury prevention.
With a learning environment that reflects today's industry, you'll graduate with a professional resume, photos and dance show-reel. You'll also possess a strong entrepreneurial spirit, a professional attitude, and instruction ability within the training and performance environment.

Program Vocational Learning Outcomes

Program Vocational Learning Outcomes describe what graduates of the program have demonstrated they can do with the knowledge and skills they have achieved during their studies. The outcomes are closely tied to the needs of the workplace. Through assessment (e.g., assignments and tests), students verify their ability to reliably perform these outcomes before graduating.

  1. Perform various styles of dance, including commercial, cultural and North American Indigenous dance forms at a professional, artistic and technical level appropriate to a specific context.
  2. Create innovative choreographic work for an individual or a team by applying technical and performance concepts.
  3. Analyze the influence of history and culture on contemporary dance forms.
  4. Execute complicated lifts and partner work using safe movement practice.
  5. Select and implement strategies for personal, professional and artistic development in the dance performance industry.
  6. Portray a healthy self-image, body- image and professional attitude to dance training and performance.
  7. Apply theoretical, cultural and historical concepts to the evaluation and execution of a dance performance.
  8. Use business and entrepreneurial skills to prepare and present a career choice plan.
