Description

EPFL’s training in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering offers a broad spectrum of different approaches providing access to the incredible diversity of the atomic and molecular world. Chemists delve into understanding matter from atoms to complex protein conformations. They master theoretical and experimental tools to unravel natural processes, protect nature, modify molecules, and invent artificial systems.

Students model spatial configurations of molecules, study molecular systems at various scales, and develop structures with specific properties in the lab. They create catalytic processes, design new energy conversion methods, and deepen scientific knowledge essential for industrial production.

Career Opportunities:

Graduates can pursue careers as chemists or chemical engineers in industries like pharmaceuticals, perfumes, food, health, biotechnology, renewable energy, and materials production. Many choose to continue academic pursuits with doctoral theses in Switzerland or abroad.

Requirement

  1. Your resume (curriculum vitae).
  2. Copy of your University degree(s), if already available.
  3. Complete transcripts from each university you have attended.
  4. A statement of purpose not exceeding 1000 words.
  5. The contact details of three academic referees.
  6. Your identity card or passport.

Language proficiency tests such as TOEFL or IELTS are optional. All accepted candidates must provide authentic academic documents before matriculation.

Structure

During the first year, classes concentrate on the basics of chemistry and biochemistry, as well as on the tools of mathematics and physics. In the subsequent years, students delve into organic reactions, physical chemistry, coordination chemistry, and analytic methods. The program emphasizes practical work, with at least one day a week dedicated to laboratory projects.

Fees

Note-

*CHF 50.- if you hold a Bachelor’s degree delivered by a Swiss University or HES/FHS

CHF 0.- if you hold a Bachelor’s degree delivered by EPFL or ETH Zürich (or if you hold a Bachelor’s degree delivered by UNIL and are applying for the Master’s program in Sustainable Management and Technology)

*The fee is not refunded in case of non-validation or withdrawal of the application.

*The application form must be validated and paid for on March 31st at the latest. Application after that deadline is not possible.

*Although tuition fees are reasonable at EPFL, the cost of living is high in Switzerland. It is important to establish a budget for the entire duration of your studies: plan for approximately 30'000.- CHF per year to cover your expenses.
