The most common type is the Abitur (higher education entrance qualification) from a general Gymnasium. However, there are other types of university entrance qualification as well as different ways to achieve them.
International Students

All degree programmes at Heidelberg University are access-restricted. The general requirements to enrol in an academic programme are a university entrance qualification and proof of sufficient language proficiency. Depending on the chosen degree programme, you may also need to fulfil additional admission and course requirements. For example, enrolment in Master’s programmes normally requires the successful completion of a previous recognised degree programme (usually a Bachelor’s degree programme). Depending on the international students’ nationality, they may require an entry visa and a residence permit in order to study at Heidelberg University.
Structure
The Bachelor's degree programme in French at Heidelberg University offers two qualification options: Master of Education in the Lehramt Gymnasium profile for aspiring teachers and Master of Arts or Master of Science for other career paths. Fees
International students from non-EU (European Union) and non-EEA (European Economic Area - Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway) countries with a foreign university entrance qualification will be required to pay a tuition fee of EUR 1500 per semester.
