Description

In recent decades, Archaeology has become a complex and interdisciplinary scientific discipline, the practice of which requires specific training; because the study of past societies using appropriate methods and techniques must be combined with the work of conservation and enhancement of archaeological sites, so numerous in Spain, whose research and protection require this training.

Accordingly, modern Archaeology today has two very important aspects in each case: the first is research, and the second is social and administrative management. The social aspect of Archaeology is becoming more important every day and is presented as a consequence of the use of this discipline as a management tool. In this sense, the development of protection systems for Archaeological Heritage in current regulations, the profitability of this Heritage as a cultural and tourist resource together with the appearance of new management alternatives, have generated a need for professionalization that must be guaranteed by the University, with a specific degree as the best certificate for training qualified professionals.

Requirement

Access to this degree does not require any additional tests other than those legally established at a national level. In accordance with Art. 14 of RD 1393/2007, of October 29, which establishes the regulation of official university education, access to official undergraduate education will require possession of a bachelor's degree or equivalent and passing the test referred to in Art. 42 of Organic Law 6/2001, on Universities, amended by Organic Law 4/2007, of April 12. This regulation has subsequently been modified by RD 1892/2008, of November 14, which regulates the conditions for access to official undergraduate university education and the admission procedures to Spanish public universities, whose art. 3 expands the aforementioned access modalities. This provision provides not only the traditional procedure for access to university for people over 25 years of age, but also other innovative access procedures for people who, having reached 40 years of age, are able to prove a certain professional or work experience, and for people over 45 years of age.

The University of Granada is part of the Single Andalusian District for the purposes of student access to the corresponding qualifications. It is, therefore, the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Business of the Andalusian Government that establishes the paths and procedures for access to the universities of our Autonomous Community.

(In principle, there is no restriction in relation to the option pursued by potential students in their previous training, but a specific test may be required to fit the profile established for pursuing these studies.)
