Description
GEOLOGICAL ENGINEERING
Geological Engineering studies and solves the problems derived from human interaction with the geological environment, which supports human activities, through the calculation, design, execution and supervision of projects and construction works, evaluating the natural conditions and the complexity of the terrain, so that they are built and used safely.
This Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering provides basic geological training and, at the same time, broad and solid knowledge in engineering subjects and techniques applied to geotechnical engineering, civil works and construction, as well as to the exploitation of natural resources, environmental management and geological hazard management.
The University of Salamanca is one of the few Spanish universities that has been offering the Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering for over 20 years. The BSc in Geological Engineering is taught in the Faculty of Science, with an optimal professor-student relationship and excellent quality conditions, both in terms of the qualified teaching staff and the capacity and equipment of the laboratories.
Requirement
The Degree in Geological Engineering is designed to accommodate students with analytical and synthetic skills to understand the Earth System, and to understand and solve problems related to engineering. It is recommended to have completed technological baccalaureate, and have knowledge of Mathematics, Physics and Technical Drawing, as well as knowledge of Geology and user-level familiarity with word processing programs and spreadsheets, and a basic knowledge of English that allows the understanding of scientific texts.

The current BSc Geological Engineering began to be taught in the academic year 2010-2011 and the current curriculum, approved by the Spanish Ministry (ANECA) and the Spanish Council of Universities in 2016, consists of 240 ECTS credits distributed in the following types of modules: 60 ECTS of Basic Training, 156 ECTS of Compulsory Modules, 12 ECTS of Optional Modules and 12 ECTS of the Undergraduate Dissertation..
Our Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering shares almost half of the credits (117 ECTS), facilities, teaching staff and laboratories with the BSc Geology and, for non-geological subjects, it also has teaching staff and laboratories of the different technical degrees taught at the University of Salamanca.
