Description

It is an “institutional double degree program”, regulated by the Regulations on Double Degrees and Simultaneous Official Teachings of the USAL (Governing Council of 29/2/2012 and Permanent Commission of the Governing Council of 17/10/2017), it was approved by the Governing Council of the USAL on 03/22/2019 and is implemented in the 2019-20 academic year.

This double degree is derived from the Bachelor's Degree in Statistics and the Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering and functions as a specific study plan (with a specific pre-registration code and a specific number of places offered annually, 10), consisting of a total of 360 ECTS distributed over 5 academic years, 10 semesters, at a rate of 72 ECTS in each and every semester. The 360 ECTS study plan that the student must complete consists of basic and compulsory subjects from both degrees (306 ECTS), optional subjects from any of those offered in both degrees (18 ECTS), the Final Degree Project in Statistics (24 ECTS) and the Final Degree Project in Computer Engineering (12 ECTS).

Double Degree students will join the teaching groups of the respective Degrees. Timetable compatibility is guaranteed by a distribution of theoretical classes, seminars and practical classes that makes it possible to complete the teaching corresponding to each academic year.

The student will have to register for subjects from both degrees, and mechanisms must be put in place to ensure time compatibility. Taking the above into account, the design that guarantees time compatibility is as follows:

Students enrolled in the Double Degree will be assigned to a specific group of those existing in each grade.

For practical classes, students will be assigned to a group compatible with the schedule, from among those existing in each grade.

Inform students of compatible schedules in each course/semester and of the possibility they have of choosing a group and their responsibility for this if they choose groups with incompatible schedules, given the face-to-face requirements of the Degrees.

Furthermore, compatibility is guaranteed in the evaluation calendar of the subjects in each of the semesters of the Double Degree.

Double Degree students who wish to study at a foreign university through an academic exchange must link their mobility to one of the Degrees that make up this institutional programme. This choice will determine the academic year, the subjects and the number of credits that can be requested as recognition of the subjects that have been passed at the host university. This procedure is regulated by the Complementary Regulations to the General Regulations on International Student Mobility of the Faculty to which the mobility is linked.

The administrative management of the Double Degree will be the responsibility of the Faculty of Sciences: registration (at the center or self-registration), recognition of ECTS, supporting documentation for registration exemptions (e.g. scholarships, large family).

Abandonment of the double degree

1. In the event that a student who has been admitted to the double degree wishes to leave it to continue studies in only one of them, he/she must apply to the Center where he/she registered before July 31 of the previous academic year.

2. To be admitted to one of the two degrees, the student's university entrance qualification must be equal to or higher than the minimum admission grade in the corresponding academic year for the destination degree, that is, the one in which he or she will begin studies outside of the double degree.

1. Student access : The access modalities provided for the Double Degree are new entry and continuity of studies.

New Enrollment : The first year of implementation, a number of 10 new students is proposed for the Double Degree, a number that will be reviewed annually. In accordance with USAL regulations on double degrees, the number of students accessing the Degree in Statistics and the Degree in Computer Engineering is reduced by 5 students each. If the maximum number of places for the Double Degree is not filled, the remaining places will be distributed between the two Degrees and will be included in the general offer. In the admission process, the weighting criteria for high school subjects for access to the University provided for both degrees will be applied.

Continuation of studies : Applications for admission of students to continue university studies include three situations:

Applications for places from students with partial Spanish university studies from another university and/or official Spanish university studies and who are recognized for a minimum of 30 credits.

Applications for places from students with partial or complete foreign university studies who have not obtained recognition of their degree in Spain and who are recognized as having a minimum of 30 credits.

Applications for places from students with partial Spanish university studies completed at our university and with a minimum of 30 credits recognized.

In any of these three situations, it will be an essential requirement that the student has a university entrance grade equal to or higher than the cut-off grade for new students entering the double degree in the academic year in which the application to continue studies in the double degree is submitted.

Access routes to Double Degree courses: these are officially recognised and regulated by law for official degree courses (RD 412/2014). Foreign students may enroll in the Double Degree course in accordance with the provisions of Spanish university regulations in general and those of the University of Salamanca in particular. On the other hand, it will be necessary to have obtained a place through the university pre-registration process.

2. Admission: There is no specific test for access to studies in this Double Degree. Places within the quota of 10 students will be assigned and allocated based on the admission grade.

3. Enrolment: The minimum number of ECTS credits per student and academic period is 60, meaning that the course can only be taken in the full-time modality . The maximum number of European credits per student and academic period is 90 ECTS, allowing students to enrol for more credits than those scheduled per course. In any case, this maximum limit and other rights affecting enrolment will be determined by the USAL Regulations on Permanence and the Regulations on Double Degrees and Simultaneity.

This dual degree is the merging of the BSc in Statistics and theBSc in Computer Engineering and works as a specific study programme (with a specific pre-registration code and with a limited number of 10 places offered annually), it consists of a total of 360 ECTS distributed over 5 academic years, 10 semesters, at a rate of 72 ECTS per semester. The 360 ECTS programme consists of basic and compulsory modules of both degrees (306 ECTS), elective modules of either of the two degrees (18 ECTS), the Undergraduate Dissertation in Statistics (24 ECTS) and the Undergraduate Dissertation in Computer Engineering (12 ECTS).

Students will have to enrol in modules from both degrees, and mechanisms must be implemented to guarantee timetable compatibility. Taking the above into account, the design that guarantees timetable compatibility is:

Students enroled in the Dual Degree will be assigned to a specific class group of those existing in each Bachelor’s Degree.

Students will be informed about the compatible timetables every year/semester and about their possibility of choosing a group and their responsibility if they choose groups with incompatible timetables, given the attendance requirements of Bachelor’s Degrees.

On the other hand, compatibility is guaranteed in the evaluation calendar of the subjects in every semester of the Dual Degree.

Dual Degree students who intend to study abroad as part of an academic exchange programme will have to link their mobility to one of the Bachelor’s Degrees that form this institutional programme. This choice will determine the academic year, modules and number of credits that may be requested in order to recognise the modules passed at the host university.
