A degree in French is an asset given the increased demand for bilingual individuals in our society. French is one of Canada's two official languages and is spoken not only in Western Europe and North America but also in large parts of Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. Students in the French program will explore the French language, cultures and literatures, from the 17th century to the present day, including literature and culture from all over La Francophonie.

Today, over 100 million people speak French fluently and almost 300 million people worldwide have some French-speaking skills. French is one of Canada's two official languages and is spoken not only in Western Europe and North America but also in large parts of Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.


Students in the French program will explore the French language, cultures and literatures, from the 17th century to the present day, including literature and culture from all over La Francophonie.

Some students move on to further study in politics, law, linguistics, speech pathology or education.


Students will focus on three main areas of study:


Language: vocabulary, grammar and syntax leading to writing, speaking, reading, listening and translating


Literature: poetry, prose and drama in French from Europe, Africa and North America from the 17th century to the present day


Civilization and culture: the development of cultures and civilizations pertaining to the French language, including the study of comics and cinema

A copy of your recent Passport Photo.

A valid copy of your Result Checker Card.

All applicants for undergraduate degree courses must possess a minimum qualification of five (5) credits, in the Senior Secondary School Certificate (WAEC, NECO, SAT, KCSE, ZIMSEC, GCE).


Direct Entry applicants are those who have not attended a post-secondary institution or have completed fewer than 24 credit hours at a recognized university or college. Direct entry applicants require the following:
