Frequently asked questions

Applicants who have completed their high school, bachelor’s, or master’s studies in a European country other than Romania are required to have their academic documents officially recognized and validated by the Romanian National Centre for the Recognition and Validation of Diplomas, which operates under the Romanian Ministry of Education. The recognition and equivalence process can be carried out either directly by the applicant—by submitting the required documents to the Ministry of Education or through the support of the International Relations Department at the West University of Timișoara. Applicants may choose to send their documents to the university’s International Office, which will then forward them to CNRED for processing. Once the Certificate of Recognition is issued, candidates will be eligible to apply and enroll in their chosen faculty during the summer or autumn admission sessions.

The tuition fee must be paid in full either at the time of applying for the study visa or upon enrolment at the faculty, at which point proof of payment is required. In the event that a candidate is unable to obtain a study visa, or in cases of force majeure, the candidate may request a refund of the tuition fee.

For accredited study programs delivered in a foreign language, applicants are required to take a language proficiency test in the respective language. However, candidates from countries where the official language matches the language of instruction, as well as those who hold a recognized international language certificate, are exempt from this requirement.

Applying for the study visa is strictly the responsibility of the candidate. A useful website in this sense is the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Romania.

For self-funded students, accommodation costs typically range between 280 RON and 650 RON per month. Applications for accommodation within the student campus can only be made during the enrolment process. This requires candidates to be physically present at the faculty where they have been admitted and to submit the necessary documents, including the original Letter of Acceptance issued by the Romanian Ministry of Education, academic credentials, a valid study visa, and proof of tuition fee payment (for self-funded students). In the event that no rooms are available upon arrival in Timișoara, students are advised to arrange alternative accommodation in advance, such as a hotel or hostel.
