Overview
The Newcastle Business School, based in Newcastle Upon Tyne and with a strong international focus, is one of four faculties within Northumbria University. There are a total of 5,500 students enrolled.
Newcastle Business School has an excellent reputation for business management education and has international AACSB accreditation. Research focuses primarily on interdisciplinary themes with a strong emphasis on practical application. Postgraduate research covers the following subject areas: Accounting and Financial Management, Business Analysis Systems and Supply Chain Management, Marketing Travel and Tourism Management, Organisation and Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, and International Business.
Cooperation
ISM and Northumbria University have developed cooperation that allows ISM graduates and other graduates to apply for a Ph.D. or a DBA program in the Faculty of Business and Law. Both degrees are at this point in time officially accepted doctoral degrees in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Preselection for the program is made by ISM, final admission will depend on Northumbria University. The supervision will be done jointly by Northumbria University (1st supervisor) and ISM (2nd supervisor). A maximum of 3 candidates per year is agreed upon.
Delivery of the programs shall take place according to Northumbria University’s Regulations & Code of Practice for Postgraduate Research Programmes.
Administrative support for ISM candidates will be provided by ISM.
Ph.D. Doctor of Philosophy
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is an original research to doctoral level in the chosen field of study with a standard duration of three years full-time and five years part-time.
Candidates need an upper second-class honors degree (UK) or equivalent, or a master's degree in a relevant discipline.
Requirement
- Minimum GPA: 2.0 (German grading system)
- Proof of English language proficiency: IELTS 7.0 (with no subscore lower than 6.5) or TOEFL ibt 100
- A research proposal at an appropriate level for doctoral study which can be supervised by both Newcastle Business School and ISM research staff
- Upper second-class honours degree (UK) or equivalent, or a Master's degree in a relevant discipline
