Inaugurated on 1 July 1991, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) started out as a teaching university which has today transformed into a research-intensive global university.Its predecessor institution, Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI), was set up in 1981 on the grounds of the former Nanyang University to educate practice-oriented engineers for the burgeoning Singapore economIn 1991, NTI merged with the National Institute of Education to form Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The alumni rolls of the former Nanyang University were transferred to NTU in 1996


NTU became autonomous in 2006 and is today one of the two largest public universities in Singapore.

The offer is made to you subject to the following conditions: NTU is satisfied that you are certified fit to study by NTU's doctor at NTU's Medical Center. The information you have given in your application form is valid, true and accurate and you have not withheld any material information from NTU.

Students admitted to undergraduate courses of study in NTU are required to take the Qualifying English Test (e-QET) unless they meet the exemption criteria. Students who fail the QET will be required to take Introduction to Academic Communication (HW0001) as a subject of study. Students who are exempted from QET or HW0001 Introduction to Academic Communication, can register for any language electives and selected Communication Skill courses.

Full-fee paying students are students who apply directly to NIE and therefore pay full programme fees without Singapore Government Tuition Grant.

Classes will be conducted in English, with the exception of Mother Tongue courses.

Applicants who have obtained Grade B4 or lower in General Paper (taken at H1 level in the GCE 'A' Level Examinations) or English Language (taken at GCE 'O' Level Examinations) would be required to show proof of their proficiency in English language by submitting one of the following English Language Test results: IELTS; or TOEFL; or EPT; or Other EL qualifications deemed suitable by NIE in-lieu of the above. At NIE's discretion, candidates may need to enroll into NIE's English Content Upgrading Courses.
