Physics

The Physics degree teachings, belonging to the Sciences branch, are focused on the attainment by the student of a general training in Physics as a scientific discipline that prepares him for the exercise of professional activities in which he must apply the acquired skills. The degree in Physics will provide a very solid mathematical training that will allow the graduate to tackle the problems that arise in their work using the appropriate mathematical tools.

Description

The Physics degree teachings, belonging to the Sciences branch, are focused on the attainment by the student of a general training in Physics as a scientific discipline that prepares him for the exercise of professional activities in which he must apply the acquired skills.

In general, and according to the White Book of the Degree in Physics, "the physicist must be able to evaluate and discern between orders of magnitude, as well as to develop a clear perception of situations that are physically different, but that show similarities, which allows the use of known solutions to new problems. For this it is important that the student, in addition to mastering physical theories, acquires a good knowledge and command of the most commonly used mathematical and numerical methods". The degree in Physics will provide a very solid mathematical training that will allow the graduate to tackle the problems that arise in their work using the appropriate mathematical tools. In addition, one of the most important objectives of the degree is the use of the computer applied to the study and resolution of physical problems. In the degree, special emphasis is placed on this aspect and computer practices have been included in various subjects that will allow this objective to be achieved.

In accordance with the White Book of the Degree in Physics, another of the objectives of the degree is to acquire "the ability to identify the essential elements of a process or a complex situation, which will allow you to build a simplified model that describes with an adequate approximation the object of study and allows predictions to be made about its future evolution. The physicist must also be able to identify how to check the validity of the model and to introduce the necessary modifications when discrepancies between the predictions of the model and the observations are found."

Finally, the laboratory subjects included in the degree will allow the student to "become familiar with laboratory work, instrumentation and the most used experimental methods".

It is considered desirable that students who intend to study for a degree in Physics have a scientific-technical profile, having studied at least Mathematics II, Physics and Chemistry in the second year of the baccalaureate, and it is advisable for them to have knowledge of Biology and Geology.

Among the qualities the future Physics student should possess, the following are of especial relevance:
